2022…A year that we most certainly will never forget. A year where we changed our lens to see the beauty that surrounds us, even in the midst of the struggle. A year where we recognized that with whatever season of life we are in, there is hope for a better season ahead.
It is audible, ear piercing, horrendous. It is such an eerie sound that you become more alert. The problem is you lack feeling. Not the kind of feeling that you are thinking of, but the feeling of life. A life where things are abundant, and you are free. The only feeling that you can sensitize with is horror, pain, discomfort.
Physical disability, mental illness, and cognitive impairment are not barriers to parenthood. They are simply hurdles you have to jump. And just like all new parents, you will have hurdles and plenty of them. The Be Perfect Foundation is pleased to offer a few ideas, products, and practices to help you put your first foot forward on the path toward parenthood.
Now I know what many of you were probably thinking, much like me, get to 2021 and things will take care of themselves and go back to normal. Wow was I wrong.
2020... What a year it has been.
It has been a year of uncertainty. A year of testing one’s mental health. A year that lacks socialization. A year that lacks physical engagement. A year of change. A year of awareness. A year of pandemic. A year of understanding. A year without sports. A year of business closures. A year of essential businesses. A year that we do not know how it will end.
What does hard work and dedication mean to you? Like anything in life, it holds a different value to all. A hardworking mentality for some is acquired and for others is inherent. Dedication for that matter is one of those things that burns inside each of us to be committed to our situations, diligent about refining our craft, and a continued willingness to learn about the things that we love. Dedication is an internal standard that disallows people to let go or give up. The only choice is to be the best that they can be. There is a loving, giving, passionate, strong-willed, and independent individual, who volunteers her time as a Board Member of Be Perfect, that pursues these life mantras every day. What’s more, is her philanthropic approach to serve others, in the midst of her own life, is where her life truly begins.
What if I told you that in 2020 we were going to have a pandemic run rampant throughout our world, changing the way that we live forever the (causing schools to close down, graduations to be canceled, weddings to be put on hold, businesses to close, a mandate for all those to stay at home, a fear by many for their health, healthcare workers fearful to go to work, sports canceled for the first time in their history, and a near shutdown of our economy)? What if I also told you that this pandemic was from something that we could not even see? An invisible enemy. Would you believe me? No, you would laugh at me. What if I told you that I was 100% positive not all of these things were going to happen. Would you prepare differently? I guess we’ll never know.
What were you doing 10 years?
Are things still the same? Or are you in a different place; mentally, emotionally, physically, literally, or figuratively? Is life what you thought it would be?
2023…A year that redefined who we are… Resilient. In a year where we did not have a formalized “fundraising” event circled on the calendar, not only did we sustain, but we grew in terms of our traction, donations, and support. Thus, allowing us to continue to reengage in our program services. With over $300,000 allocated towards our program services this year, we have tuned our site ahead to a bright future to be able to serve the paralysis community in their pursuit to adapt to an ever-changing inclusive world.
