What is the Be Perfect Foundation?

The Be Perfect Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)(3) with a mission to provide direct financial and emotional aid to individuals living with paralysis.

BP has changed the lives of hundreds of fathers, mothers, siblings and friends with paralysis by keeping them in recovery, purchasing medical necessities, and providing guidance and emotional support. You can hear some of the amazing stories of our patients here.

Hal Hargrave Jr. created the Be Perfect Foundation in 2007, just a few months after he suffered a life-altering automobile accident that left him paralyzed from the neck down. After recognizing the limitations insurance companies were putting on some of his friends dealing with paralysis, Hal resolved to do his part to help them recover. Read more of Hal's story here. To date the foundation has raised over $6 million for individuals with paralysis.

WHAT IS OUR MISSION?

To provide direct financial and emotional aid for individuals living with paralysis by providing resources, paying of medical expenses, restoring hope and encouraging personal independence through a non-traditional method of exercise-based therapy.

What is our vision for the future?

To live in a world where paralysis does not financially burden families to the point of emotional turmoil and physical distress--where a lack of both hope and resources does not exist.

How does Be Perfect help?

Lifetime costs for spinal cord injuries can total over $2.5 million per victim. In most cases, insurance only covers 50-65% of these costs.

BP promotes a holistic, exercise-based therapy approach to recovery. BP offers scholarships for activity-based therapy at The Perfect Step to qualified recipients. We also provide supplemental funds to those who cannot afford:

wheelchairs
car adaptations
high medical bills
general daily medical necessities
financial assistance for outpatient therapies

MEET OUR FOUNDER

After an accident left him paralyzed at the age of 17, Hal Hargrave Jr, decided he needed to use his life to help other people with paralysis. He started by setting up a paralysis recovery center and a donor support system for people who’s insurance didn’t cover it. That was the beginning of The Be Perfect Foundation.

2023 RECAP

2023…A year that redefined who we are… Resilient. In a year where we did not have a formalized “fundraising” event circled on the calendar, not only did we sustain, but we grew in terms of our traction, donations, and support. Thus, allowing us to continue to reengage in our program services. With over $300,000 allocated towards our program services this year, we have tuned our site ahead to a bright future to be able to serve the paralysis community in their pursuit to adapt to an ever-changing inclusive world.
