On December 13, 2013, just weeks after I had received a flu shot, I became totally paralyzed from the nose down. I was rushed to the hospital because I could no longer stand or hold myself up. I was diagnosed with a rare condition called, GuIllian-Barre Syndrome, which shuts down all your nerves and muscles. I went from a very physical job, working six days a week and 12 hours a day, to being paralyzed. After that I was then on life support and had a trach and feeding tube. I was in a subacute nursing home for four years and I finally returned home in 2018.
Because of your incredible kindness and generosity, I have received a scholarship to attend The Perfect Step. This was the first time in my recovery that I was able to be active again. At The Perfect Step I have been able to use their robotic gait training machine, the G-EO System, and for the first time I have been able to take steps since my diagnosis. It has been amazing.
The Perfect Step has shown me that nothing is impossible if you want it bad enough. The Specialists at The Perfect Step have shown that with sheer willpower and drive, I can move more than I used to and with that it has given me hope to walk again.
All of this has been a blessing because I was in a nursing home for four years and now because of my physical strength I am able to be at home with my family.
My immediate goals are to strengthen my muscles and eventually stand and walk on my own.
I would like to thank the foundation for giving me this opportunity to do this amazing therapy program and the blessing of the scholarship. I would not have been able to do this without your help and support.
Please see attached videos of what the Perfect Step has helped me do in just a few weeks
Again thank you so much for helping to get some of my old life back.
