Anna Karen Barajas
My name is Anna Karen Barajas and I was injured in a motor vehicle accident on November 12, 2017, that left me a T1-T6 Incomplete spinal cord injury.
The motor vehicle accident that I was in led to be a fatal one that was caused by an intoxicated driver who decided to get behind the wheel and it physically, mentally, and emotionally changed my life permanently. I suffered major internal injuries, had multiple rib fractures, loss of blood, punctured lungs, on top of suffering a spinal cord injury. My dad suffered fractured ribs and body bruising. And my Mother who may now Rest In Peace lost her life in a car accident by hitting her head. The impact of the crash caused her skull to burst open and have internal bleeding.
The Be Perfect Foundation has provided me the financial means to attend The Perfect Step. The Perfect Step has not only provided me with safety techniques for living a daily handicap lifestyle, but they have always welcomed me with open arms in a judge-free environment full of laughter, and kicking butt in every session.
Previously I was fearful whenever I would try new exercises. For example, working on my core by leaning back and finding the strength and to bring myself back into a sitting position, and also when it came to leaning forward. That has helped me along the way whenever I would do transfers out of my wheelchair to another safe surface.
The Perfect Step has provided and encouraged me to do things that I was doing before my injury, such as getting back to driving, working, and keeping a healthy lifestyle.
When I first found out about The Perfect Step, at that time, I was doing physical therapy in another facility that my physical medicine doctor referred me to. At this other facility, there were limitations when it came to our sessions. But when I started with The Perfect Step there were no limitations when it came to me trying new things. This is where I was impressed and I am fortunate enough to say I have come along way.
My current goals I have for myself when it comes to my lifestyle are to first love and accept myself for what I am. The goals that I am currently working towards are to have a much healthier lifestyle so I can get around and do transfers much easier, defeating the odds, and proving to those who told me I will never be able to walk again. I know the team at The Perfect Step will help me along the way.
I want to sincerely say THANK YOU for supporting and cheering me on when I accomplish new and exciting things that The Perfect Step has done for me. And THANK YOU for supporting my cause may God Bless you :)!!
