Garrett Laubscher

On March 6, 2011, Garrett Laubscher's life changed unexpectedly following a motor vehicle accident. While driving on a wet roadway, his vehicle hydroplaned, resulting in a traumatic spinal cord injury. Garrett sustained a complete T10 spinal cord injury, forcing him to navigate a new reality and adapt to the many challenges that accompany paralysis.

Like many individuals living with spinal cord injury, Garrett quickly learned that independence often depends on access to specialized equipment and resources that are rarely covered in full by insurance. Maintaining mobility, transportation, and the ability to participate fully in daily life can create significant financial burdens for individuals and families alike.

Through the support of the Be Perfect Foundation, Garrett received funding for vehicle hand controls, a critical piece of adaptive equipment that allows him to drive independently. This assistance has had a profound impact on his quality of life, providing him with the freedom to travel, manage daily responsibilities, and remain active within his community without relying on others for transportation.

For Garrett, the support extends beyond the equipment itself. Knowing that organizations like the Be Perfect Foundation exist—and that compassionate donors are willing to invest in the lives of individuals living with paralysis—has served as a powerful reminder that he is not alone. The generosity and encouragement of others have reinforced his belief that there is a community of people who genuinely care and want to see individuals with disabilities thrive.

One of Garrett's proudest accomplishments since his injury has been achieving a high level of independence. Through perseverance, adaptability, and determination, he has built a life that allows him to navigate many aspects of daily living on his own. This independence is something he values deeply and continues to work hard to maintain.

Looking toward the future, Garrett's goals are centered around preserving that independence while finding ways to give back to others facing similar challenges. The grant support he received helps ensure that he can continue living an active and self-sufficient life, while also creating opportunities for him to pay forward the kindness and support that he has received.

Reflecting on the impact of donor generosity, Garrett shared, "The fact that Be Perfect exists and that donors care enough to support people like me means more than I can put into words. This grant helps me maintain my independence, and my goal is to pay that kindness forward. You rock! Thank you so much!"

Garrett's story is a testament to the life-changing impact that accessibility and community support can provide. Through donor-funded programs and adaptive equipment grants, the Be Perfect Foundation continues to empower individuals living with paralysis to pursue independence, maintain active lifestyles, and create brighter futures for themselves and those around them.
