Steven Lawrence Sanchez
“Thank you so much for considering me for this grant. I truly appreciate it. Without help, nothing would be possible. I can see hope in my future, and I’m hoping to live a better and healthier life. I realize that without the generosity of others, I couldn’t accomplish this. I am very grateful.”
Steven Lawrence Sanchez’s story is a powerful reminder of the fragility of health and the strength of the human spirit. On November 25, 2025, Steven suffered a life-altering stroke, the result of unmanaged diabetes, high blood pressure, and cholesterol issues, conditions that went untreated largely due to financial hardship. But his health challenges began long before that. In December 2024, he underwent brain surgery on the left side of his brain, a procedure that left him struggling with limited mobility. The road to recovery has not been easy, and Steven is now preparing for another brain surgery on June 9, 2025, as part of his continued fight to restore movement and function.
Beyond his physical challenges, Steven has endured deep emotional loss. Three years ago, he lost his wife, the person he called his anchor, which plunged him into a state of prolonged grief and depression. The emotional toll, compounded by his declining health, created a perfect storm that nearly robbed him of hope. Yet in the midst of these challenges, Steven has refused to give up.
With the support of the Be Perfect Foundation, Steven has found a lifeline. One of the most transformative contributions he received was a wheelchair, which provided him with a renewed sense of freedom and autonomy in his daily life. “Without this wheelchair,” Steven says, “at least I have my independence. That’s everything.” The assistance has made it possible for him to navigate his world with greater confidence, maintain a degree of self-sufficiency, and continue working toward his physical goals.
Be Perfect has not only met Steven’s physical needs, it has also reignited his sense of purpose. While he humbly admits that nothing is perfect, he embraces the mindset of taking each day as it comes, choosing resilience over resignation. His short-term goal is simple yet profound: to stay alive and regain movement on the left side of his body. Long-term, he dreams of standing again, walking, and living a healthier, more vibrant life. After his upcoming surgery, he is determined to return to physical therapy and push his limits once more.
To the donors who make Be Perfect’s work possible, Steven offers heartfelt thanks: “Thank you so much for considering me for this grant. I truly appreciate it. Without help, nothing would be possible. I can see hope in my future, and I’m hoping to live a better and healthier life. I realize that without the generosity of others, I couldn’t accomplish this. I am very grateful.”
Steven’s journey is still unfolding, but with each act of generosity and each ounce of support, he is reminded that he is not alone. His story is a testament to the difference compassion and community can make and the hope that can be restored when someone chooses to believe in you.
