I really want to live a full life
— Gavin Martin

Gavin Martin’s journey began in July 2017 when, at just eight years old, he was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive brain tumor known as ATRT. His childhood quickly shifted into a series of surgeries, chemotherapy, radiation, and repeated rounds of treatment after the tumor returned. As a result of the tumor and everything required to fight it, Gavin experienced lasting neurological effects, including significant loss of strength, limited use of his left hand, challenges with balance, and partial vision loss on one side. Despite these obstacles, Gavin continues to face life with determination and a quiet strength that reflects his resilience.

The Be Perfect Foundation’s scholarship has played a meaningful role in Gavin’s recovery, allowing him to continue his therapy at The Perfect Step without adding strain to his family. Access to consistent, specialized rehabilitation gives him the chance to pursue the independence and physical progress he works hard for each week. Gavin’s motivation is anchored not only in what he has overcome, but in what he still dreams of achieving. “I really want to live a full life,” he says, a simple statement that carries the weight of everything he has fought through.

Through therapy, Gavin has already accomplished measurable gains. He can now walk farther, complete more intense workouts with less fatigue, and handle stairs and coordination drills with increasing confidence. Each milestone brings him closer to reclaiming the strength and mobility that were disrupted by his diagnosis. Looking ahead, Gavin hopes to continue building independence, regain the ability to participate in sports he loves, and feel more confident going out and spending time with friends.

To the donors who make his therapy possible, Gavin offers heartfelt gratitude. Their support gives him and other kids like him a real chance to keep improving, healing, and moving toward a brighter, stronger future.
