I come from a country where help for people in my situation is very rare. When I found out that I was getting a scholarship, my family and I cried because we couldn’t believe that B.P. didn’t even know us and they were helping me. I knew then that they're people who truly care.

I have not been in The Perfect Step the program long, but the few therapies I have had have been very aggressive and I really like them. I feel like I am getting sore in areas, where I had not been sore in over one year. The therapies, advice from the physical therapies, and the employees at the front desk have given me tremendous hope for my future and my recovery.
Seeing other people in my condition and seeing them regaining their life styles is very motivating. I am hopeful to be completely independent again.

They showed, and still are showing me better and smarter ways to deal with my injury with positive motivation and proving to me that it is possible to do more than the doctors and other physical therapy places ever thought. We work on gaining my spasticity levels in my legs down to where I can be much more independent. Before my injury happened I was nearly 16. I had a very active lifestyle, playing varsity football as a sophomore and college baseball scouts we watching me as that season approached. So having a place to go to that has this family, or team feeling, is awesome. All the trainers and aides look to help, not just me, but very client reach their goal to be as independent as possible and feel like life isn’t over just because they may be using a wheelchair or cane to get around for now.

The Be Perfect Foundation has closed the gap on a need that no other social service, insurance, or program has been able to meet: access to high level therapy. I currently get therapy, at The Perfect Step "TPS", once every other week, which falls well short of what is needed to fight my contractures.
This foundation has restored hope that I will be able to meet my goal(s). The most immediate goal at the moment is being able to maintain as much range of motion in my ankles, knees, and elbows. The long term goal is to be able to eventually get a power chair that can stand me. That way I can participate in school activities at eye level with my peers.

I sustained a stroke, after I came home from work and after I had dinner I went to open the mail and I had a stroke in front of my family. Immediately the EMS was called and I was transported to Kaiser hospital where I was given TPA within 3 hours.
Because of your contributions I have been able to go receive therapy treatment at The Perfect Step. The Perfect Step and their therapists have helped me regain my ability to walk and use my right arm again. I am so glad there is a facility close by to assist in improving my physical limitations. Currently, I am working on regaining better balance and being able to walk with my four prong cane, while strengthening my right arm. Additionally, I hope to regain my stamina in the future because I will never sit still. My nickname was the "energizer bunny" especially at my job; that never stopped.
Read MoreAndrew Zirzow is an avid bike rider (a previous professional BMX rider and an amateur mountain bike racer) who sustained a C-6/7 spinal cord injury in February of 2017, in a mountain biking accident. For Andrew this was a routine ride through Sycamore Canyon Park in Riverside, when he went headfirst off of a jump after flying from about 10 feet up in the air. Immediately after his injury, Andrew could not move much of anything at all, let alone he did not have the ability to scratch his face, take a drink of water, or feed himself. However, much has changed since then (as he has transitioned from being in a wheelchair full-time to walking with a cane) through very hard work.

Jeff Merritt was injured on October 9, 2016 in Indio, CA, while he was on duty as a Motor Sargent, after he was hit by a car driven by a lady who was texting and driving. Jeff suffered an L-1 spinal cord injury, seven broken ribs, a broken left wrist, a broken left clavicle, and a broken right tibia. After his stay at Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, he was transferred to Casa Colina, until he was released from acute care in March of 2017.
